At Studio 312 Interiors, we believe that great design doesn’t always require tearing down walls — sometimes, the most impactful changes come from working within the existing footprint. Our recent project in Fox Chapel is the perfect example of how strategic upgrades in cabinetry, flooring, and finishes can completely reinvent a space while maintaining its original structure and flow.
Before: Tired Palette With Untapped Potential
This kitchen had solid bones, but its finishes felt tired and lacked cohesion. Yet the overall layout worked — the homeowner didn’t want to reconfigure the space, just reimagine it through a fresh pallete. Our job was to appreciate that footprint while elevating every square inch.
After: A Light, Layered, and Livable Transformation
We embraced a soft, transitional palette with a focus on timeless elegance and modern function. Here's how we brought this vision to life:
🌿 Cabinetry with Character
The biggest visual transformation came from replacing the cabinetry. We selected cabinetry in a warm, soft nuetral that feels both fresh and sophisticated. The inset beaded panel doors add a classic touch, while modern black hardware brings in a subtle edge. Glass front cabinets in the dining room area offer an opportunity for display and help lighten the look.
But beyond the aesthetics, every cabinet was designed with purpose. From deep drawers near the range for pots and pans, to pull-outs for utensils, and a dedicated drink station, functionality was built into every detail.
In the dining room, we maximized utility by introducing a floor to ceiling cabinet and glass-front wall cabinets with generous drawer storage below, providing a beautiful and practical home for serving pieces, table linens, and special entertaining essentials. No more dragging out items from distant closets — everything is right where it needs to be
🍋 Bright, Polished Surfaces
A continuous quartz countertop with subtle veining stretches across the entire kitchen and seamlessly up the backsplash. This full-height slab not only looks stunning — it’s incredibly low maintenance. The result is a clean, expansive look that reflects light and enhances the sophisticate feel.
🌻 Natural Texture & Warmth
We added natural wood elements to balance the light nuetral hues. The beautiful new hardwood flooring throughout the first floor along with the decorative wood vent hood over the range adds vertical interest and organic warmth. In the adjacent dining space, the open wood shelf echoes the same tone, reinforcing material continuity. These details soften the entire design and make the space feel inviting, not sterile.
🍽️ Dining Room Connection
The existing dining room felt disconnected, but now feels like an intentional extension of the kitchen. We enlarged the opening and carried the cabinetry through while wrapping the counter surface for serving or entertaining. A fresh coat of soft blue paint on the walls creates visual separation while remaining complementary to the overall palette.
The updated dining table and lighting fixture add distinctive details, while the built-in buffet cabinets ensure the room works just as well for a casual breakfast as it does for a holiday dinner.
A Home Elevated
This kitchen is a testament to the power of intentional design. Without moving a single wall, we redefined how the space looks, feels, and functions. By investing in tailored cabinetry, smart storage solutions, and cohesive finishes, the kitchen now supports everyday life with ease — and transitions beautifully into entertaining mode when needed.
This is what thoughtful renovation looks like: respect the layout, reimagine the function, and elevate the experience.
Studio 312 Interiors was proud to help this family fall back in love with their kitchen.
